
On September 6th, the closing ceremony of UNSW Business School Information Systems and Technology Study Tour co-hosted by the University of New South Wales, Australia, East China University of Science and Technology, Australia-China science and technology and cultural exchange platform overlooking the sea research study organization was successfully held at the School. Ms. Chen Jie, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, Mr. Luo Han, a leader from the Xuhui District Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Mr. Bian Jun, President of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce in Sydney, Australia, Prof. Song Lai, Vice Chair of the University Council, Prof. Yan Haifeng, Vice President of the University, Prof. Wu Baijun, Dean of the Institute of Advanced Social Sciences, and Prof. Fan Tijun, Dean of the Business School, attended the closing ceremony of this event.
In his speech, Prof. Song Lai welcomed all the leaders and guests as well as the faculty and students of the study tour to the University. He said, ECUST has more than 70 years of schooling history, always targeting at the world's first-class, building a multi-level openness and exchange situation, and more than 170 world-renowned universities and scientific research institutions outside the country to establish a close and friendly long-term cooperative relations. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is a prestigious institution of higher learning for students from all over the world, and its Business School and Engineering School are renowned globally. Under the strong promotion of Mr. Bian Jun, and with the active support of Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xuhui District, students from the Business School of the University of New South Wales once again came to Shanghai to carry out the study activities with the theme of “Digital Economy”, and came to our school to participate in the closing ceremony. It is hoped that through this study activity, the students will be further inspired to explore innovation and pursue excellence in the field of digital economy, and will be successful in their studies, so that they can make their own contributions to the promotion of the high-quality development of the global digital economy. It is also hoped that in the future, our University can establish a deeper cooperative relationship with UNSW and jointly promote the cultivation of innovative talents.
Prof. Yan Haifeng, on behalf of ECUST, and Mr. Luo Han, on behalf of Xuhui District Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, presented souvenirs to the delegation. The delegation also presented souvenirs to the Business School.
Prof. Guo Zixiu, the tutor of the study tour group and associate professor of the Business School of the University of New South Wales, presided over the closing ceremony and delivered a speech. She thanked the relevant departments of Shanghai Municipality and ECUST for their great support to the activities of this study group. She said that in the past ten days, the students visited many enterprises, science and technology plants, science cities, as well as many cultural landmarks and buildings, and these experiences greatly inspired the students' enthusiasm for further exploration in the field of digital economy and their strong interest in Chinese culture, which made them fall deeply in love with Shanghai and China. She hopes that more students from UNSW will come to ECSUT and Shanghai in the future to experience the development and charm of China's economy and culture.
Afterwards, the participants of the study group presented their achievements and shared their gains and feelings in this activity. They said that this activity has deepened their understanding of China, and truly felt the innovation and social responsibility of Chinese enterprises.
Dr. Chen Meichen from the School gave a lecture entitled “Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence” to the students and faculty of the study group, discussing the basic concepts of digital economics, its transformative impact on research methodology and results, and how to incorporate advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), into economic research.
Mr. Jin Zhan, an executive of the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, Mr. Guo Yiming, the head of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Section of Xuhui District, Mr. Liu Jinfeng, the acting head of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Department of Xuhui District, Mr. Li Ruisong, the project manager of the Science and Technology Division of the Shanghai International Cultural Exchange Association, Mr. Du Yunfeng, the legal advisor of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce in Sydney, Australia, as well as relevant functional departments and college leaders of the school attended this event.
