On November 15, Clarivate Analytics, an authoritative academic evaluation institution, released the list of Global "Highly Cited Researchers 2022", aiming at recognizing influential natural and social scientists around the world. Shao Shuai, Professor at ECUST School of Business, was selected as the Highly Cited Researcher in the Cross-Field for the third year in succession.

Shao Shuai, Distinguished Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of East China University of Science and Technology, Deputy Dean of the School of Business, Deputy Director of the Center for Energy Economy and Environmental Management Research, Chief Expert of major projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, winner of the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund, has been successively selected as the Global "Highly Cited Researcher" of Clarivate Analytics, "China Highly Cited Researcher" of Elsevier, World's Top 2% Scientists (published by Stanford University team), and World's Top 5% Economists (RePEc/IDEAS database). His main research fields are energy economy and environmental management, and regional sustainable development. He has published more than 150 articles in journals such as Nature Geoscience, Nature Sustainability, Environmental & Resource Economics, World Development, Energy Journal, Global Environmental Change, Environmental Science & Technology, Ecological Economics, Economic Research, Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, and Jiefang Daily, of which more than 20 papers have been selected as ESI hot papers and highly cited papers, with H index being 44; He has presided over 1 major project supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, 4 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (1 "extraordinarily excellent") and more than 10 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; He has received many academic and teaching awards such as Youth Achievement Award of Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences), Zhang Peigang Development Economics Outstanding Achievement Award, Liu Shibai Economics Award, the First Prize of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, the instructor of Contemporary Economics Doctoral Innovation Project (formerly China Economics Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award), and the excellent (grand prize) instructor of China National College Students Competition on Energy Economics; He has held a variety of academic positions such as executive editor of World Development, associate editor of Journal of Environmental Economics, academic editor of PLOS ONE, field editor of Asian Economics Letters, academic editor of China Population, Resources and Environment, guest editor of periodicals such as Resources, Conservation and Recycling and Land, editorial board member of periodicals such as Land and Modern Economic Science, Vice Chairman of Resources Economy Research Committee of China Society of Natural Resources, Vice Chairman of Economic Expert Group of China Energy Society, Vice Chairman of Ecological Health and Human Ecology Committee of the Ecological Society of China, Vice President of the Council of China Green Finance Research Alliance, Deputy Secretary General and Standing Council Member of the Energy Economics and Management Research Branch of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics, Standing Council Member of the Energy Resources Systems Engineering Branch of the Systems Engineering Society of China, and member of the Resources and Environmental Economics Committee of China Economics Annual Conference.

It's learnt that this year's list was determined based on the highly cited papers published in the 11 years from January 2011 to December 2021. A total of 6,938 scientists from 69 countries and regions were on the list, including 1,169 from the Chinese mainland. Based on data analysis conducted by bibliometrics experts at the Institute for Scientific Information of Clarivate Analytics, the selection method is specially developed using InCites and ESI according to the number of academic papers published and research performance indicators and trend data of Web of Science citation data. Web of Science is the world's largest publisher-neutral citation index database and research information platform. Natural and social scientists on the list have published many highly cited papers, which are in the top 1% by citations for their field, demonstrating their significant academic influence among their peers.
